St. James United Church
St. James United Church located on 14 Hebrew Ave was built in 1879 by Billy Dingwell. The first structure was partially finished when a violent windstorm on Feb 21, 1879 blew it down. The committee decided to change the site of the church. On Dec 20, 1879 the church was offically opened. This church is a Gothic style and has great tower and spire, it is 50 feet long by 30 feet wide and will accommodate 300 people.

The Matthew House Inn
The Matthew House Inn
The Matthew House Inn is located on 15 Breakwater St, it was built by Billy Dingwell, for Uriah Matthew around 1887. In 1902 Uriah died and his wife inherited the home, at that time his son Brenton took over for him at the Matthew and McLean company. Miriam Matthew, granddaugher of Uriah inherited the home, in 1988 she sold the house to Linda Anderson and Emma Cappelluzzo who came from the States and changed the house into a Victorian Heritage Inn. After years of success it was sold in 1995.

Usens fire in Sept 1993, was a major event in Souris, because at that time Usens was the main job stability for many families in the community.

In September 1993, fire broke out at Usen Fisheries in Souris. Throwing 300 workers and 50 trawler men out of work. Usen's at the time was the town's largest employer. According to the fire chief at the time, the fire started at an incinerator located at the back of the plant. Apparently a burning box escaped through the smoke stack and was blown against the side of the building with strong winds. This was a major crisis that affected so many families, with the main source of income gone.

The wheel was part of a giant pulley system used to move merchandise from the cellar to three sales floors in the Matthew and McLean store.
