Saint Stanislaus Convent

Saint Stanislaus Convent was originally the home of M.J. McIver. In 1935 it was converted into a convent for the Sisters of Saint Martha. It was also home to girls who boarded there while they went to high school.

School Becomes A House

This is the parish house at the time of Father Croken (1953-1973). There was a section of it used as a school, grades 9-10, for some time and then was removed and became Eugenia McCarvill’s house.

In the background can be seen a section of the parish house, which was used as a school, being moved through the fields to be Eugenia McCarvill’s house. The house still stands in kinkora behind the current post office.Two of the Morris children playing on the swings in their yard.

Seed Cleaning Plant

The McCardles Seed Cleaning plant in kinkora clean and sell forage, turf and cereal seeds.

Senior Citizen Float

The Maple Leaf Senior Citizens Club from kinkora built this float to display many of the homemade crafts by their club. It was put in parades all over the Island. Seen in the picture is Earl Keefe and Annie Duffy

Somerset Days Parade

The kinkora Kindergarten’s float in the Somerset Festival parade. The parade runs from Somerset Elementary school down Somerset Street then turns on to Anderson Road and ends at the Community Center.

Somerset Elementary School
-
Somerset Elementary School was built in 1983-84 at the cost of 2 million dollars. It had long been a dream of the community to have a larger modern elementary school. St.Clair Duffy the school trustee for kinkora and area was a driving force in persuading the school board and government of the need for a new school.
