Invitation to Meet Ireland’s President

This invitation was sent out for a meet and greet event held in honour of Her Excellency Mary McAleese, President of Ireland’s visit to Prince Edward Island. She made a special stop in kinkora as it and many of its surrounding communities such as Shamrock, Emerald, Middleton and Kelly’s Cross were first populated by Irish immigrants.

Irish Delegate Visits Kinkora

A Journal Pioneer Article about the Irish Delegation that visited when PEI and County Monaghan were twinned in 1998. The delegates visited kinkora and were amazed at the similarities that still exist between Ireland and the Irish settled kinkora.

J.F. Morris General Store
-
J. F. Morris opened a general and produce store in 1935 and ran it until 1938 when he transferred it to his brother P.L. Morris. It then became the kinkora Country Kitchen restaurant. Currently the building is used as an apartment complex and has been moved back from the street. Identified in the photograph are: Mary Johnston second from Left and Margaret Kelly far right.

Jollity

The blacksmith in kinkora, John. T. Smith, bought the stallion Jollity in 1949. His best time was 2:05.4. He was used as a stud horse and sired many colts that were successful in the Maritimes. He lived to the age of 24 years old and is still talked about today.
