This home was built in 1895 for Matthew and McLean company. In 1903 Waldron Brewer Leard bought the home, he was a tailor and founded the Leards menswear store. When forced into retirement, he became committed into preserving records, not only of his hometown of Souris, but the whole island. These records came to be known as the "Leard papers". He wrote history of Lots 42-47 and 56. Waldron died in 1967 before it could be completed, and with the help of his wife and friends Adele Townsend finished his dream of a book about Souris called "Ten Farms Become A Town".
